The Diva Intensive Retreat is held in Ma*Shuqa & Carl’s beautiful private Egyptian & Moroccan themed hidden garden oasis dance/photography studio in Los Gatos, California replete with Egyptian & Persian oriental rugs, mirrors, Spanish cork floor, & air-conditioning. Enjoy learning & relaxing in a safe & welcoming environment - a verdant garden oasis with Egyptian papyrus & al fresco dining California-style amidst a grove of towering California redwood trees. Enjoy our peaceful zen garden & wind-chimes. Located at the foot of the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains near Silicon Valley San Jose InternationalAirport.

The Diva Intensive Retreat is the ideal opportunity for dance instructors and professionals who want to add to their dance education. Ma*Shuqa shares instructional notes and her approach to coaching professional dancers. You receive a 3-ring binder with over 100 pages of articles, teaching notes, and choreography - on important topics including Tarab, rhythms, finger cymbal technique and musicality, dance styling options/approaches/and development process, Middle Eastern music/maqamat and dance styling.
Retreat Highlights: • Detailed Tips to: stylize dance steps & personalize performance movement - learning is easy and fun! Also: a Personalized Dance Assessment and setting career/learning goals. • Middle Eastern Rhythms: dance, zils, drums, & frame drums ; Arabic Maqams, Tarab & Taxim: musicality, structure, and dance styling tips & technique. • “Famous Signature Raqs Sharqi” dance styling to make your own unique “signature dance styling”. • Performance Opportunities: Friday Welcome Party, Saturday Retreat Hafla with Drum Circle, Sunday at a Middle Eastern Restaurant. • Turkish Harem B&B (all dancers stay in the studio) Gourmet Meals: breakfast, lunches, dinners & snacks catered by Chef Carl; All transportation to/from Retreat Activities are provided (no need to rent a car airport pickup). • Gift of still & video performance images from Carl Sermon Photography.
Retreats vary according to the needs and requests of dancers. You will receive more than 50 useful handouts including choreographies, rhythm patterns, Middle Eastern musicality, Taqasim, Dance movement styling tips, and techniques...more than we can cover - but you take away over 100 pages in a 3-ring binder. The Diva Intensive Retreat is an excellent resource for dance instructors as you get handouts and notes that support the Ma*Shuqa Method which includes a unique method to teach students to play finger cymbals while dancing. This is the opportunity of a lifetime to receive a resource of information from Ma*Shuqa that you can use for your teaching and professional development as a dancer.
Diva Dancer Performance Styling Retreat Activities
· Diva Retreat includes snacks & meals, daily dance workshops, class discussions, and presentations for 30 total hours of study and performance time. Retreat tuition is a tax-deductible educational business expense for teachers and professional dancers. With the Ma*Shuqa Method Diva Retreat notebook, you will have a lifetime of teaching material.
· Classes include: warm-up/cool-down, posture, dance & finger cymbal instruction, cultural roots of Raqs Sharqi/Oriental Dance, Middle Eastern rhythms & musical structure, costuming, stage make-up, choreography & dance styling for improvisation.
· Turkish Harem B&B style lodging in the dance studio included in the fee: Dancers responsible for bed-making, with linens and towels provided. Shared bathroom facilities.
Tuition
Tuition includes: All workshop instruction, food, a 3-ring class notebook with Ma*Shuqa’s instructional handouts approximately 100 pages with music reviews, articles on dance topics, choreography, teaching notes Ma*Shuqa's Primer, Ma*Shuqa's 10 Easy to learn zils, Drum Solo Secrets for performance, gift of performance images, & video, gift bag with goodies including pen, notebook water bottle, and coffee mug, and other gifts. DIVA pin and workshop certificate.
NOT included in tuition: Travel costs to Los Gatos; lodging costs to/from/ during the retreat (if you do not stay with us in the B&B studio accommodations), drinks, alcohol, tips at the restaurant; any merchandise purchased from Ma*Shuqa; and other travel and incidental expenses are a personal cost and personal arrangement. EXCEPTION: If you fly into San Jose Airport, we will pick you up, and back to the airport for your flight home. All dancers stay at the studio (with no additional B&B cost).
